Outlook

Overview

Deep transit stations and interior buildings can create a complete temporal disconnection: passengers and occupants lose awareness of time, weather, and the world above ground.

Outlook is a site-specific digital work for windowless spaces that restores environmental awareness. Instead of numerical time, a slowly shifting gradient reflects real-time sun position and weather conditions.

In Practice

Initial testing in windowless spaces showed measurable changes in how people orient themselves to time and place. People engaged with the gradient as they would a window, checking it for time and atmospheric conditions rather than viewing it as decoration.
